The Silverton-San Juan County Ambulance Association (SSJCAA) is the primary Emergency Medical Services provider to Silverton and San Juan County.
We serve approximately 387 square miles of the most rugged mountains in the contiguous United States. The elevation of Silverton, the only town in the county, is 9,318 feet above sea level. The population is assessed at 699, but balloons each summer with a large influx of tourists. Over 700,000 tourists visit Silverton each year, summer being our busiest time of the year. The county is also becoming a popular winter destination for many outdoor sports from mild to extreme. The SSJCAA has been in continual service since 1975. We transport patients primarily to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, making an average transport nearly 60 miles. Helicopter service is available when weather permits by Flight for Life, Care Flight and AirCare.
The SSJCAA is proud to announce that since 2011 we have been able to provide on-call Advanced Life Support medics 24/7. Our primary crews, dispatched by 911, are able to respond within 5 minutes of receiving a call, and are capable of advanced cardiovascular care, pain management, and airway control, as well as all basic life support procedures.
Our mission is to provide quality emergency care for San Juan County through education and training with the highest degree of integrity, quality, and consistency.
